If you’ve been doing industrial work for a while now, you’re probably already aware of the various types of cranes that exist. However, each one typically has a distinct style of scale attached to it as well. That’s why we’re taking the time today to go over the different types of crane scales and their uses.
Digital Crane Scales
Let’s start with the most common choice: the digital crane scales. They have a basic digital display that tells you what you need to know and nothing more. Their weight capacity is versatile and can weigh anything between 50 kg and 100 metric tons. This flexibility is what makes them a popular option. So if you’re looking for a standard hanging crane scale, we recommend that you check out the selection on our site.
Electrical Crane Scales
If you want something a little more advanced, you should get electronic crane scales. They’re much more accurate and durable. Plus, they give you more information about the object you’re currently weighing. Some even have wireless capabilities, which allow you to send the details to another screen for further viewing. The only downside is they have a smaller weight range of about 300 kg to 30 metric tons.
Portable Crane Scales
The major plus of this type of scale is in the name. Portable crane scales are easy to move from place to place. While all crane scales are technically portable in one way or another, you can quickly grab portable crane scales off the hook and carry them in your pocket. Due to their lightweight nature, though, you can only use them on smaller loads.
Monorail Crane Scales
Probably the most distinctive scale in our list of the different types of crane scales and their uses is the monorail crane scale. If you have any crane built into some form of a railing system, this is the one you’ll want to go with. Unlike most other types, these scales typically exist directly in the crane system. While that takes away their versatility, it can help give you more consistent readings when the crane is on the move.
Girder Crane Scales
If your company regularly moves around large objects, you’ll want to get girder crane scales. They specifically handle heavy-duty loads and come in single or double girder configurations. Single girder scales can work with weights between 1 to 20 metric tons, while double ones can hold 1 to 150 metric tons. Even though the dual configuration can weigh everything the single one can, only using the double one would be overkill if your team only weighs loads under 20 metric tons.
